The Foundation has been a longtime supporter of The Morgan Library & Museum and its Literary & Historical Manuscript Collection initiative. Since 2007, several multi-year grants have enabled the important work of cataloguing the Museum’s rare collections of manuscripts, including masterpieces by Gibbon, Newton, Darwin, Yeats and the Brontë sisters. This work enables scholars to access portions of the collection that had previously been unknown via the institution’s online public catalog, and have made possible exhibitions on Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and many more over the years.
More recently, the Leon Levy Fellowship in Manuscript Cataloging was established to carry out the project work. Fellowships are available to select graduate students with master’s degrees in library and information science or substantial course work towards the degree with specialization in working with original historical documents.
